Believe and Hang on!

Believe

God sent His precious Son to make right all the wrongs done in our lives.  “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).  Christ provides total fulfillment for our salvation if we believe.   “He will reward all those with everlasting life for all those who believes He exist” (Hebrews 11:6).

This sounds great, doesn’t it?  Of course it does!  But belief in Him is more than believing in Him.  Paul said, “If you declare with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved” (Romans 10:9-10).

The word believe in Greek is “Pisteuo” which means to trust and rely on.  Merely believing doesn’t save us; however, it’s a life of trust, dependence, reliance, and hanging on to God.  This is why Jesus says we must be like little children to enter into the Kingdom of heaven.  Children have a total and complete confidence, dependence, and reliance on their parents.  Parents provide children everything they need like food, clothing and shelter.  Our Father in heaven gives us everything we need.

On Sunday February 14, 2016 I’m excited to begin our new study series entitled “Believe.”  The book of Ephesians written by Paul is divided into two halves, the first three chapters and the last three chapters.  The first three chapters are about right believing and the last three chapters are about right behaving.

The first three chapters are about the salvation and how we come to know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  In the last three chapters we get an application of our salvation and how we are to live out our faith to which God has called us to.

Belief in him requires that we behave like we believe.  Even Satan believes.  So it can’t be based on just belief.  James says, “You believe that there is one God.  Good!  Even the demons believe that and shudder” (James 2:19).

God wants us to rely on Him!  God wants us to lean on Him!  God wants us to “Believe and Hang on!”
