Meet Our Leadership
Robert 'Bobby' Garza
Deacon
Bobby Garza moved to Austin, from Laredo, in 1978. Bobby is married to his beautiful bride, Donna Slade-Garza. Their son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren live in the Houston area.
Bobby had started his career in the television industry while in Laredo and continued that with KTBC-TV in Austin. Bobby became the director of the local evening news and continued that for over 15 years. Currently, he is the Warranty Manager for a local boat dealership. Donna is a licensed mortgage loan officer.
Bobby and Donna have two (large) Newfoundland dogs that keep them busy and entertained. Bobby’s hobbies include playing the guitar and listening to music. He enjoys Texas Longhorn sports – especially football. And when time permits, works on various projects around the house.
Steve Krippner
Deacon
Steve Krippner and his wife, Sonya, have lived in the Austin area for over 20 years. They have two sons, Max – currently serving in the US Navy, and Stefan – now serving in the US Army. Steve served our country as a soldier and calvaryman for 12 years, before becoming a police officer for the City of Austin. Steve is now serving as a police officer for the Lake Travis Independent School District. He and Sonya live in Lakeway.
Steve has been a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He frequently serves as our song leader and was recently asked to serve as Deacon of Facilities and Chief of Security. His favorite bible verse is Luke 22:36 and his favorite bible heroes include Samson, Joshua, Gideon, Paul, Cornelius and, of course, Jesus.
Steve’s favorite sports are rugby and wrestling. In his free time, Steve enjoys the company of his sons when they are on leave.
George Bomar
Shepherd
The Bomars helped establish the Oak Hill Church of Christ (at the “Y” in southwest Travis County) in 1977, and George preached there from 1978 until 2015. During part of that time (1995-2015), George also served as an Elder, while Judy worked much of that time in the church office as an administrative aide.
George retired from government service (with the State of Texas) in 2020, having worked as a meteorologist for various state water agencies over a 46-year span. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Meteorology from Texas A&M University. He also earned a B. S. degree in Biblical Studies from the Institute of Christian Studies and an M.S. degree in Bible from Abilene Christian University. He is author of Texas Weather (1983, 1995) and Weather in Texas (2017), both published by the University of Texas Press.
George began preaching, on an intermittent basis, for the Lake Travis Church of Christ in 2016; he has preached on a regular basis, as a “tag team” partner with Duncan Campbell, since 2023.
Will Ed Winters
Shepherd
Will Ed Winters and his wife, Cynthia, grew up in West Texas, and are both graduates of the University of Texas at Austin. Will Ed, a civil engineer, has worked for state water agencies since 1974, and in 2006 retired from the Texas Water Development Board.
Cynthia is a retired school teacher. She volunteers for many tasks at our church and does volunteer work for the Austin Disaster Relief Network. Will Ed and Cynthia have four children and eight grandchildren.
The Winters were previously members of the Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ. Will Ed served there as deacon of youth, and both Cynthia and Will Ed periodically taught Sunday school classes. Will Ed loves the outdoors and is a rock collector.
Bill Johnson
Shepherd
Bill Johnson grew up in the city of Hawthorne, California, near Los Angeles. Bill is married to Julie and they have four daughters.
Bill is the owner of Johnson’s Cabinets & Woodworking. Julie Johnson has a bookkeeping business in the Austin area.
Prior to joining the start up of the Lake Travis Church of Christ, Bill and Julie were members at the Oak Hill Church of Christ where Bill served as a deacon for the young professionals and young married.
