Making & Keeping Promises

Promises

This country has been divided on the issue of same gender marriage for some time now.  It’s no secret with my marriage to my wife for more than 25 years that I believe in what God tells us.  That marriage is a covenant relationship between one man and one woman.  I vehemently oppose anything to the contrary.

Phillip Morrison of “Encouraging Words” says, “That marriage between one man and one woman is a conclusion he draws from the Bible and it all began with Adam and Eve.”  He also states, “That the Supreme Court is the interpreter of the Constitution, and the interpretation in this case is the law of the land unless and until the Constitution is amended or the ruling is overturned by a future Court.”  This issue it seems to have many divided and all are not in agreement.  Our country is divided.

In our story this past week we learn of a kingdom divided because of differences of opinions.  Rehoboam, Solomon’s successor wanted to rule with an iron fist and continue with high taxation and forced labor laws.  Jeroboam on the other hand thought it was way too harsh and left and set up camp in the Northern region, while Rehoboam remained king in the South.

The division that occurred between the Northern Kingdom and Southern Kingdom caused strife.   Currently the division that is on the issue of same gender marriage is causing strife.  However, God has a bigger plan in place.

Instead of focusing on our differences, God wants us striving to focus on Him and look to His Word for comfort and answers.  This world is ultimately not our home.  Heaven is our home.  Many times we get distracted by polarizing view-points.  His promise is to bring all those who are willing back into communion with him.  Because of His promise long ago, He will keep that promise to you and me.
