Everyday Christians

When growing up and going to church we had our “Sunday clothes” and our “everyday clothes.”  My Mom would have my brother, sister and myself dressed to impress.  Some call it their “Sunday’s best,” However, Monday through Saturday we wore our “everyday clothes.”

Some people have a “Sunday religion” and an “Everyday religion.”  They merely put their religion on and off like they do with their Sunday clothes.  To some, Christianity is only a Sunday social club or just a place to go on Sunday.

Paul says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1).

If we are to grow in Christ, not only as a church family locally, but worldwide, we must be a living example of our religious beliefs.  The Hebrew writer said, “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise; the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.  And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Hebrews 13:15-16).

The religion of Christ Jesus is more than a Sunday religion.  It’s a way of life.  Everyday Christianity is about daily prayer, exhortation, Bible study, and bearing the cross of our Lord and Savior.
