Lead Like Jesus

Lead Like Jesus

In the book of Joshua the Bible says, “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.  Joshua 1:2 (NIV)

These sad words, “Moses my servant is dead,” brings Joshua, the son of Nun onto the stage of leadership.  Moses was now dead, but the work of the Lord was to continue.  Joshua’s job was now to lead his people into the promise land.

God told Joshua to “Get ready.”  Joshua was up to the task ahead and believed in God.  Not only did Joshua believe, but the people that Joshua was leading was up to the task and was willing to do whatever and go wherever he was leading them to.

God gave Joshua seven encouraging or directive words. Joshua 1:6-9 (NIV)

  1. Be strong
  2. Be very courageous
  3. Obey all the law
  4. Do not turn from the law
  5. Keep the book of the law always on your lips
  6. Meditate on it day and night
  7. Don’t be afraid; do not be discouraged

If you feel as though you have been called to become a leader, the Master Teacher said, “Follow me.”  When we follow Jesus, we become like Him.  We will embody His qualities and become worthy leaders.

It is when we learn to follow that we learn to lead.  My encouragement to you is to follow the Master Teacher and develop these qualities to help you along your path of leadership.   Our supreme objective is to follow Christ and when we learn to follow Him we will learn to lead like Him.
