Steadfast Love

Steadfast love

In our Story this coming week we will be taking a closer look at David, a “Man after God’s own heart.”  David sinned against God by committing adultery.  He lied.  He also had Uriah, his soldier, put in harm’s way where he was killed in the line of duty.

David said, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.  Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51:1-2 NIV).

David realized the sin he committed, his contrite heart and repented of his sin, thus God forgiving him.

Paul said, “We all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory” (Romans 3:23 NIV).  He also says, “There is no one righteous, not even one.” (Romans 3:10 NIV)  If we realize our sin and confess our sin to God and turn from that sin, God will forgive.

The English Standard Version (ESV) uses the word “steadfast love” instead of “unfailing love.”  The lyrics to “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases goes like this:

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end.  They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness, the Lord is my portion says my soul, therefore, I will hope in Him.”

No matter what we do, no matter how far we move away from God, if we are willing to confess and repent of our sins, His love is steadfast, forgiving and long-suffering.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion never fails.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV).  His love is Steadfast!
