Who Is He?

Easter 2016

This coming Sunday is Easter.  We will be celebrating an event that happened more than 2000 years ago.  Christ foretold his death, burial and resurrection again and again.  Jesus said, “The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again” (Luke 24:7).

Let’s suppose that today is the first Easter morning and Mary Magdalene was with us telling us the story word for word of the angels, telling her not to be afraid, that the Messiah has risen just as he said.

In the book of Revelation Jesus appears to John in his glorified state, and gives him the interpretation of Easter.  He said, “I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever!  And I hold the keys of death and Hades” (Revelation 1:18).

When Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem the book of Matthew accounts that the entire city was moved when he arrived.  They asked, “Who is he?”  The crowd answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”  Are you moved in such a way to recognize it’s him who has restored you?  Who removed sadness and placed it with joy?  Who is he?

The Christ who died is the same Christ who rose again.  Christ did not stay in the grave!  He rose and is alive!  Death did not defeat Christ.  He sits at the right hand of God almighty!  The basis for what we believe as Christians is a living and powerful God who is more powerful than anything we can ever face here on earth including death.  Amen?!
